What is the Apurímac rafting experience?
It’s a full-day whitewater rafting adventure on the Apurímac River, one of the most scenic and remote rivers in Peru, known for its deep canyons and thrilling class III–IV rapids.
How long does the trip last?
It’s a full-day activity. Departures usually start early from Cusco, with several hours of rafting and return in the evening.
What level are the rapids?
The section used for one-day trips typically features class III and IV rapids, exciting and technical, but manageable for adventurous first-timers and
intermediate rafters.
Do I need prior rafting experience?
No previous experience is required, but you should be comfortable in water and in good physical condition. Professional guides will provide a safety briefing and instruction before you begin.
What should I bring?
- Swimsuit
- Towel and dry clothes for after
- Sunscreen
- Secure sandals or river shoes (no flip-flops)
- Refillable water bottle
What’s the minimum age?
Minimum age is usually 12–14 years, depending on river conditions and operator policy.
Is it safe?
Yes, safety is a top priority. Guides are trained in swiftwater rescue, and all expeditions include support boats and emergency plans. However, travel insurance covering adventure sports is mandatory.
When is the best time to go?
The best rafting season runs from May to October, during the dry season, when water levels are ideal for this section of the river.

                      Travel insurance

Travel insurance is mandatory for all our adventures and you’ll need to share your policy details before departure. Your cover must include overseas medical treatment, emergency evacuation/repatriation, baggage and equipment, plus all the activities in your itinerary.
We also strongly recommend cancellation and curtailment cover in case illness or other unforeseen events prevent you from travelling.
Standard policies often exclude adventure activities, so please check the fine print. Many travelers choose World Nomads for adventure, focused protection, select the policy that fits your needs and fully covers your trip.
