Trip overview

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in San José
Airport meet & greet and transfer to your hotel. Evening briefing (what to pack in the small day bag for the river, how your main bag is transferred). Early night recommended.
Day 2: Pacuare River - raft into the rainforest
Scenic drive along the flanks of Irazú/Turrialba to the put-in. Class II–III rafting through lush canyon scenery to El Nido del Tigre, a simple rainforest camp right on the river time to wander short trails, spot toucans, or hammock-time before dinner. (Non-rafters can swap rafting for a guided hike in/out.)
Day 3: Pacuare to Arenal
Back on the river for the marquee day: longer section with Class III–IV rapids, waterfalls and narrow gorge walls. Take-out near Siquirres and drive to La Fortuna for check-in and a well-earned soak in natural hot springs that evening.
Day 4: Arenal hiking and La Fortuna Waterfall
Morning hanging-bridges circuit with canopy views of Arenal & Lake Arenal; continue to La Fortuna Waterfall trail and pool at the base. Afternoon to explore La Fortuna (or rest); hot-spring time is available depending on your hotel timing. Dinner on own unless arranged.
Choose your finale (Days 5–8)
Option A: Monteverde (cloud-forest finish)
Day 5: Arenal Lake crossing to Monteverde
Car → boat across Lake Arenal → car up to Monteverde; check-in and intro cloud-forest walk or coffee-town wander.
Day 6: Cloud-forest day
Guided hike in Monteverde or Santa Elena Reserve; optional hanging bridges, zip-line canopy, night walk, or coffee tour.
Day 7: return to San José
Slow morning (birding/last trails) and afternoon transfer back to San José for your final night.
Day 8: Depart San José
Airport transfer after breakfast.
Option B: Manuel Antonio (rainforest-meets-beach finish)
Day 5: Transfer to the Pacific (Quepos/Manuel Antonio)
Settle in by the beach; sunset swim or short coastal walk.
Day 6: Manuel Antonio National Park
Guided wildlife hike (howlers, capuchins, sloths, iguanas) ending at white-sand coves; optional catamaran & snorkel, kayak/mangroves, or surf lesson (not included).
Day 7: Return to San José
Enjoy the ocean early, then drive back to the capital for the farewell evening.
Day 8: See you soon!
