FAQs

What is this biking experience about?

It’s a scenic one-day mountain biking adventure through the Sacred Valley, exploring the Inca sites of Moray and the salt mines of Maras. The ride combines culture, history, and stunning Andean landscapes.

Where does the tour start and end?

The trip usually starts from Cusco with private transport to the starting point near Chinchero. It ends in the Sacred Valley or back in Cusco, depending on the operator.

How long is the ride?

The ride typically lasts 4–5 hours, covering approximately 30 km (18 miles), mostly downhill or rolling terrain with some short climbs.

What’s the difficulty level?

Moderate. It’s suitable for active travelers with basic biking experience. The terrain is mostly wide dirt roads and some singletrack, with vehicle support nearby.

What altitude is it at?

The ride begins around 3,700 meters (12,100 ft) and descends gradually to around 2,900 meters (9,500 ft), so acclimatization in Cusco prior to the
ride is important.

What should I bring?

  • Comfortable biking or athletic clothes
  • Windbreaker or light jacket
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen
  • Small backpack or hydration pack
  • Camera or GoPro (optional)

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. Travel insurance that covers adventure sports such as mountain biking is required.

Can beginners join?

Yes, but some prior biking comfort is recommended. If you're unsure, the guide can adjust the route to fit your pace and ability.

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is mandatory for all our adventures and you’ll need to share your policy details before departure. Your cover must include overseas medical treatment, emergency evacuation/repatriation, baggage and equipment, plus all the activities in your itinerary.

We also strongly recommend cancellation and curtailment cover in case illness or other unforeseen events prevent you from travelling.

Standard policies often exclude adventure activities, so please check the fine print. Many travelers choose World Nomads for adventure, focused protection, select the policy that fits your needs and fully covers your trip.
